As we grow in our knowledge of God, our love and appreciation for Him grows. During this season, I pray that you have been able to grow deeper in your knowledge of God. In the youth ministry at Trinity, we have been studying themes in the Bible. I wanted to share one with you today, and I pray it blesses you.
Creation is one of the major themes in the Bible. By looking closely at the creation account, we can find a great source of comfort for us in this time. In a theological study of the creation account, the Bible proclaims God as the maker and giver of life. The Apostle John describes God in the opening of His Gospel as the source of all things that are in existence.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.” (John 1:1-4)
In creation, we see that God is the one who initiates. He initiated the creation of all things. He also initiates a relationship with us. As I shared with the youth group on Wednesday, it’s like when a young man likes a young woman. He initiates a relationship with her because he has a strong desire for her. He may initiate interaction by asking her out on a date. In the same way, God initiates a relationship with us because He has a strong desire for us to have a relationship with Him. God not only initiated creation, but He wants us to take part in a relationship with Him.
Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
(Psalm 100:3)
God desired for us to have a relationship with Him. We see just how much His desire was in the sacrifice of His own Son. He was willing to do that to make a relationship with us possible. I am so thankful that we serve a God who initiates. We serve a God that is near to us, wants to be near to us, and has gone to great lengths to make it possible!
