I. The History (1:1-2:5)

A. Incomplete obedience is disobedience

II. The Cycle (2:6-3:6)

  1. Disobedience – “They did evil in the sight of the Lord”
  2. Oppression – “The Lord gave/sold them into the hand of . . .”
  3. Repentance – “The people of Israel cried out to the Lord”
  4. Deliverance – “The Lord raised up for them a deliverer”
  5. Repeat 

 III. The Themes

  1. The result of continual disobedience/sin
  2. God’s faithfulness to his covenant promises
  3. The need for an eternal deliverer
